Pillars of Islam

Foundation of Islamic Faith

Allah’s Messenger Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم has taught us that the Islamic faith is based upon five principal acts:
1. Testimony of faith that ‘none has the right to be worshipped but Allah سبحانه وتعالى and Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم is the messenger of Allah’.
2. Establishment of Salaah (five congregational prayers daily).
3. Payment of Zakat (obligatory elms paid annually)
4. Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah for the affording)
5. Saum (Fasting in the month of Ramadan). These are the obligatory acts which form the foundation of a Muslim’s life. Thus any person who accepts to be a Muslim must observe these acts faithfully as without their observance, his faith will not be complete. These acts are, in fact, major forms of worship of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. By observing these, a Muslim not only gains high rewards in his credit, but also perfecting himself into these acts results in improvement of his direct relationship with Allah سبحانه وتعالى, his creator.
