Shukr (Gratitude to Allah سبحانه وتعالى)
Shukr is a condition in which a person appreciates all the favors and bounties granted to his/her by Allah سبحانه وتعالى and expressed his gratitude verbally and by his/her actions.
Allah سبحانه وتعالى is our creator; his bounties on all human beings are countless. He has reminder us repeatedly in The Holy Quran some of the most important favors including making us human beings and giving us powers of hearing, seeing and thinking. In addition, He has made for us a favorable environment on the earth to live and to benefit from food, water, minerals and many other materials needed to sustain our life. Above all, He sent prophets to each & every nation to direct us to the right path and lead a successful life.
After granting all these bounties, Allah سبحانه وتعالى has given human being the choice to be thankful or thankless by our actions & deeds. Those who are thankful recognize Allah سبحانه وتعالى as their sole creator and sustainer and spend their lives according to His commands. For them, He will grant everlasting success in the hereafter. Contrary to that, the thankless individuals fail to recognize the powers of Allah سبحانه وتعالى or take some of His creations as partners with Him, spend a life lead by their wishes and will have to face Allah’s wrath in the hereafter.
We can express Shukr (gratitude) to Allah سبحانه وتعالى by:
1. Verbally thanking Him for His bounties on us. One of the best ways is to recite the supplications of Gratitude for each occasion of thanking; as taught to us by The Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم.
2. Spending the abilities and energies granted to us in obeying Allah’s commands, avoiding His displeasures and struggling against the forces of evil.
3. Remembering Allah سبحانه وتعالى both at trouble times and during affluency.
