Nation of Aad
The nation of Aad were the successors of the survivors from the nation of Prophet Noah عليه السلام who settled in the southern part of Arabian Peninsula. Allah سبحانه وتعالى had given them tall statures like pillars and exceptional physical and intellectual powers. They used to build large palaces along the cliffs of mountains and had abundance of cattle and gardens. They started worshipping the false gods and started to deny the teachings of the messengers of Allah سبحانه وتعالى. Out of their arrogance, they used to exercise injustice to other people without any fear of accountability.
Prophet Hood عليه السلام was sent to them as a messenger from Allah سبحانه وتعالى. He advised them to worship Allahسبحانه وتعالى alone without taking partners with Him and refrain from disobeying His orders. He warned them of the powers of Allah سبحانه وتعالى acting against them if they would not repent from their deeds. The people of the nation refused to accept him as a true messenger and to give up the worship of their false gods. They tried their best to stop the prophet from religious teachings and asked him to bring forth the wrath of Allah سبحانه وتعالى if he was a true messenger. Ultimately, Allah سبحانه وتعالى decided to destroy them. The torment of Allah سبحانه وتعالى descended in the form of a violent furious wind that blew on them for seven nights and eight days, leading to total destruction of the nation. Prophet Hood عليه السلام and his followers were saved from the torment by the grace of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
The nation of Aad were destroyed because of their persistence to practices of polytheism, denial of the messengers and injustice on the earth. Their immense strength, intelligence and worldly resources could not save them from the wrath of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
