Basic human rights in Islam

Islam is the religion of humanity and great stress has been placed in Islamic teachings for the preservation of basic human rights. Holy Quran declares that all human beings are the offspring of Adam & Eve and have been divided into communities and tribes for the sake of identification. No one has any priority or supremacy upon someone else based on his/her race or ethnic origin. The only criterion of superiority of a human being is piety. Islam recognizes the right of others to choose their religion and orders to protect their places of worship. Nobody can be forced to accept Islam unwillingly. While Islam urges its followers to fight for the rights of stranded, oppressed and helpless communities, there are strict rules even when Muslims are at war. War is not imposed if the enemy shows inclination for a peace treaty. Indiscriminate killing is prohibited and so is killing of non-combatant men, women and children. Destruction of the crops, plantation and live stock is not allowed. Asylum seekers are protected and prisoners of war are treated in a just and humane manner. These and other basic human rights were introduced and practiced in Islamic community centuries before their inception into the modern international community where gross violations are still widely observed.
