Rights of parents
Allah سبحانه وتعالى has given special instruction to obey and treat your parents with respect and dignity. Obedience of the parents has been mentioned only second to the obedience of Allah سبحانه وتعالى and The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. Out of the parents, the mother has been specifically mentioned due to her extra efforts of carrying the child in her womb for months and then feeding the child. In fact, good treatment of parents has been a hall mark of true believers. The limitation of obeying the parents only comes if they urge their children to disobey the orders of Allah سبحانه وتعالى or to take partners to Him in worship.
Special mention has been made of elderly parents, as their care becomes very taxing for the children due to their physical or mental disabilities. Believers have been asked to observe extra patience in this situation and avoid expressing their annoyance to the elderly parents. Great rewards have been promised for those who fulfil the responsibility of parental care with courage and patience.
Righteous and virtuous parents are a special gift as they will be the cause of elevation of their children’s grades in the paradise. Alternatively, children can benefit their deceased parents by praying for them, as the parents get benefit from the prayers of their children even after their death.
