Rights of the orphans and people in need

The physical, financial and moral help of the destitute and needy segments of the society is an act of worship in Islam and is a source of earning great rewards. The well-off individuals in the society are not only supposed to pay an obligatory charity (Zakah) annually, but are also encouraged to spend additionally as much as possible to help the deserving people in the society. The foremost group of people who should be helped are the orphans, the widows, the poor patients, needy relatives, the captives and the displaced people. The society has been given a special duty to look after the proper upbringing of the orphan children and safeguard their property till they are capable of managing their affairs.
