Revelation of the Holy Quran
The Holy Quran is preserved in a secure tablet in the heavens and was descended to the world in the month of Ramadhan (The month of Fasting; i.e. the 9th month of Hijri calendar). It was descended in the Night of Qadr, a blessed night that falls within the last ten days of the month of Ramadhan. The worship in this night is better than the worship of more than a thousand months. The Angel Gabriel عليه السلام descends to the world with groups of angels in this night to greet the believers who are involved in the worship of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
In its physical form, The Holy Quran was descended to the heart of The Prophet Mohammad صلى الله عليه وسلم over a period of 23 years and the content of the revelation used to be relevant to the circumstances through which the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and his companions were passing. The Angel Gabriel عليه السلام, who is the most honorable, most trustworthy and most powerful among the angels, was the messenger of the holy revelation who used to bring the message of The Holy Quran from Allah سبحانه وتعالى to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم.
The Holy Quran was revealed in Arabic language because it is a very elaborate language, easy to understand and also because the primary audience was the people of Arabic peninsula. The message of Quran was revealed to The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم gradually and in stages, and as per the prevailing circumstances, to make its understanding easy. Thus, the true meanings of any verse of The Holy Quran can only be appreciated by studying the circumstances in which the verse was revealed, and by the advice and action of the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم that followed its revelation. This information is preserved in the form of The Sunnah and Hadith of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and this information is utilized by the authors of many reputable books of the interpretation of The Holy Quran (the books of Tafseer of The Quran) to explain the true meanings and the context of the verses of the Holy Quran.
