Repentance/Turning to Allah سبحانه وتعالى/ Seeking forgiveness/Touba/Astaghfar

The Holy Quran teaches us that our life on the earth is a test of the freewill granted to all of us. The guidance about the right and wrong has been given to us in our instinct, reinforced by teachings of a series of prophets that were sent to all nations. All of us are prone to make mistakes, by intention or without intention. By his generosity, Allah سبحانه وتعالى has granted us the pathway of seeking his forgiveness and retracting back from the undesirable deeds.

Many of the daily supplications include seeking the forgiveness of Allah سبحانه وتعالى so that the unintentional mistakes that we make are washed away from us. However, we should also review our actions on a regular basis to ensure that we are not involved in any major acts of disobedience, as these are not forgiven without Touba (repentance).

Touba is an intentional act which involves four prerequisites:
1) Accepting one’s mistake and repenting on what has been done.
2) Sincerely seeking forgiveness of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
3) making an intention not to repeat the misdeed.
4) If the action involved physical or mental harm to another human being, compensating them for their damages.
